MICRODERMABRASION
During microdermabrasion the outermost surface of the skin is partially or completely removed by the light abrasion. The procedure is not painful and required no anaesthetic. This treatment has been known to improve the appearance of scars and is also used for the treatment of acne. Many laser and intense pulsed light practitioners suggest microdermabrasion before light based treatments, to improve the penetration of the light through the skin. Mild redness may occur for between 30 minutes and half a day, depending on the aggressiveness of the treatment. A course of homecare products may improve the results.
Microdermabrasion is indicated in the following instances:
Age spots, sun and smoking damage and dull skin
The number of treatments required depends on the severity of the individual case, but a course of 4 – 6 treatments of about 20 minutes each can bring significant improvement to most skins.
Acne
Active acne or scarring needs to be assessed by Medical Practitioner before a recommendation is made, due to the multiple elements of the disease.
Fine Lines
Scars
Assessment is essential before treatment is carried out.
